Tropfest is Sydney's annual Short Film Festival run by John Polson which originated as a screening of finalists at the Tropicana Coffee Shop in Darlinghurst and now inhabits The Domain. Each year includes a celebrity judge or two and a high calibre of Films. They are 7mins or less, contain the annual 'specified item' and are released now as a Sydney Morning Herald promotion on DVD a week or so later.
These DVDs make a great resource for occasional short stories for worship or as warm ups... the 2002 winner 'Lamb' was a particularly poignant example and 'How Far From the Beach Can You Get in Your Underpants' is a comedy classic.
SHORTS Short Film Festival we host for Blackstump borrows this highly successful format for the films.... in 2004 the specified item is 'jumper'.... check out details at www.blackstump.org
