Minister's Induction Jesmond Park Uniting Church 4th July 2020

Is a church still a church if it's basically been empty for four months?

These and other questions to explore today in the Induction of Rev. Dr Judy Redman as the Minister of the Word at Jesmond Park Uniting Church... I'm thinking today of my favourite Oliver Jeffers storybook "Stuck" when Floyd takes his diamond kite to the park and it gets 'stuck' in a tree.
Is a kite still a kite of it's 'stuck'?

We will explore identity through Acts 2: 42-47
44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need... they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts...

And Matthew 16: 13-20
at v15 “But who do you say that I am?”

Here are some of the illustrations:

Is a church, still a church if it has basically been empty for four months?

The Uniting Church Basis of Union reminds us,
"The Congregation is the embodiment in one place of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, worshipping, witnessing and serving as a fellowship of the Spirit in Christ. Its members meet regularly to hear God's Word, to celebrate the sacraments, to build one another up in love, to share in the wider responsibilities of the Church and to serve the world”
