Bring on the Change

Bring on the Change
The standard of Australian journalism and what a slow news week it has been are features of this weeks 'goings on' in the Federal Seat of Kingsford-Smith. Clearly the Opposition and Labor Leader Mark Latham had been plotting and cajoling for former 'Oils' frontman Peter Garrett to join the team and enter Federal Politics.... BUT the sideshow caused by Peter's hardline environmental views, an electoral role glitch and whether or not he wore a jacket for his press conference were laughable.
They were shown up as a trivial sideshow by the class he demonstrated in dispatching the enquiries with staright answers and clear and concise picture of the why's and wherefore's of his decision to get into the admittedly flawed game of politics [which after all just means 'work done in public']. Yes, its the art of compromise, but what a shame Peter was dudded by a preference deal all those years ago when he narrowly missed the chance to represent the Nuclear Disarmament Party in the Senate.
Peter Garrett would be the last to want the focus of this week to be on praising him, but all he did this week was again display the integrity, clarity and passion of any onstage rant I've witnessed over the years!! Yep, being in a Party like Labor will entail discipline and sticking to a party policy. But you can imagine the stiff arguments which will go on in the development phase of ideas! Somehow we all seem to know that Carmen Lawrence and her factional colleagues are against the hardline assylum seeker policy despite Labor's actaul policy.... seems to still be OK to be known for having the different view though... she's party president for that very reason!!

Anyhow, despite my disappointment in PG's decision to quit the 'Oils' and the manner of their finale [or lack thereof at Twin Towns Leagues]
'THIS IS SOMETHING I WILL REMEMBER!'
