Where I'd Rather Be...
I read three things this morning that made me ponder...
Where would I rather be?
It's been a long week, well two weeks actually, well four weeks...
And I'm not quite at the point where I can stop...BUT...
I'd rather be in:
1. New York City
Exploring more of the other four boroughs....
Brooklyn to begin with as well as catching 'Spiderman' the musical
2. New Zealand for the whole Rugby World Cup
Mind you somewhere actually warm would be better
I guess I'll settle for the week of the Final in Auckland and actually going to the game
3. Doing Laps of Lambton Pool or Homebush or the Cook+Phillip
Woke up after Mondays session at the Cook+Phillip Pool with a terrible throat so that's it for a week
4. Getting Acupuncture on my Sore Foot
It's getting better but not fast enough
5. Taking Photos around Newcastle for my latest Project
I have started and the weather today is magnificent
Maybe I'll take the camera when I go the Chiropractor
It's all manner of therapies here...
6. At the Movies
A couple of new films start today so there'd be something I haven't seen that I'd like to...
Jonny English could be great or could disappoint, next on my list though is 'The Guard'
7. At Bills 2 in Crown St for Breakfast
Mmmm corn fritters and honeycomb pancakes
8. Reading a book
Oh to have the time to stop
9. At the First Assembly for Sydney Alliance at the Town Hall tonight
One of the things this last two years has cost me is the energy and opportunity to fully participate in the community development made possible by the Alliance... I just feel I'm in a dead end with no idea where to next and so while I'd enjoy the interactions and be motivated to contribute I have no idea where it'd be heading... so I just have to wait...
Fortunately I don't need an organisation to teach me what I've done for years in terms of 'relational meetings,' deep listening and mission...
10. Driving to Sydney to see a Play at Bevoir St
Or Sydney Theatre Company
11. At a 'Midnight Oil' gig
Time machine required... Back to Selina's at Coogee!!
Packed in like sardines... too hot really, and the Oils working flat chat through 10,9,8...
And Diesel and Dust

Seinfeld Highlight
Here's a link to one of the great Seinfeld moments in what to me is the funniest show ever!! The plot complexity and agony of 'Fawlty Towers' with the dry humour and introspection in the writing of Larry David who lives vicariously in the George Costanza character. I enjoy the more edgy and grainy 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' but my fun theory is that life is full of Seinfeld moments and I'm often reminded of an episode or scenario in life's more crazy moments!!
Couldn't embed so check it out here
I might crank out a few episodes as I could use a good laugh!!

"Janice I'm Falling... Janice help me!!"
Friends at Winter Camp shared this pearler with us and while funniest home videos and 'in' jokes are always an acquired taste this is a very funny clip!! "Janice, I'm falling!"

'Judgement Day' May 21st begins 'the rapture'

Harold Camping of the Family Radio Christian broadcasting radio network is having a second stab at predicting the end of the world on October 21st with 'judgement' beginning on May 21st!! This has created a media frenzy in an otherwise pretty antagonistic context here in Oz... the twitter-verse and media outlets are filled with talk of 'what you'd do if it was the last day tomorrow... fascinating... read more here from the source of all wisdom wikipedia!!
I would love to have the clarity and motivation to write something meaningful about this but there are plenty of those reflections around too and I'm too weary today... I hope that doesn't count against me!!
For now I'd be disappointed 'if the world ended tomorrow' even though if you read carefully it's October 21 we need to watch out for... that'll be tricky for me as I'll be mid air on the way to the Rugby World Cup play off and Final that day... whoops!!
I'll be annoyed because:
- I have tix to see 'Hairspray
- The NSW Waratahs have yet to win a 'Super' title
- 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2' finale film in July
- My 'Sydney List' is incomplete
- I turn 50 this year
- Oh and I am yet to fully 'be the change I want to see in the world' or to do enough for those who live at our edges!!

Mentos and Coke Rocket Car
The Mentos and Coke boys were at it again on Letterman tonight our time in Oz [so Tuesday nights show in the US] and they had 100+ bottles of Coke Zero powered by adding buckets of Mentos and then popping the stoppers to release the energy fizz and send Letterman down the street on the rickshaw type bike!!

Radio Controlled Hummer Cars

Spent a little of my Christmas money today with small simple radio controlled cars in sale at DSE! For years I've had a remote ute but it's finally given up and the girls love to take these to the local netball complex and drive them around the multiple courts in the late cooling summer afternoon... we'll take the kite and my hovercraft tomorrow and see what fun can be had... ahhh! holidays!

It's All in the Name

I often marvel at the 'make it up as you go along' spelling of US sport stars names... often phonetic or as if people had no idea... but tonight I heard third hand about a couple of kids from the local maternity ward....
DXJ and La_a ??? Any takers?
That's DJ [the X is silent] and La dash a!!
Two different families! Great stuff!

Rob's Wallaby XV vs South Africa this Saturday
Here's who I'd play in the side to take on South Africa in Perth this weekend BUT it might be different v NZ next time around as I think one mistake we make is they require different strengths!!
1. Benn Robinson
2. Stephen Moore [only just]
3. Ben Alexander
4. James Horwill
5. Mark Chisolm
6. Rocky Elsom or Dean Mumm
7. Phil Waugh
8. Richard Brown
9. Patrick Phibbs
10. Kurtley Beale
11. Lachlan Turner
12. Matt Giteau
13. Ryan Cross
14. Drew Mitchell
15. Adam Ashley Cooper
Bench
16. Tatafa Polota Nau
17. Matt Dunning
18. David Pocock
19. Will Genia
20. James O Connor
I haven't dropped Al Baxter because of his scrummaging woes because the idiot referees have no idea what they're watching. It's because The other two need to start and Dunning can play both sides of the scrum.
It's time for change and not manufacturing Centres in the absence of Mortlock so I'd bring in Beale for a 'go' but back him for the rest of the series, leave Ashley Cooper at fullback and try Cross who also should be picked for the rest of the series

"Youth Ministers" Rethinking Youth Ministry
Saw this clip on "Rethinking Youth Ministry" that with a few cultural references changed [and a few verses added for all the other stereotypes I could think of] is a bit of a chuckle about this crazy task in which we engage!!
The fun of stereotypes is that there are plenty of examples that just don't fit but it's funny nonetheless!!

WWJD @Assembly

Despite adding a few days to my experience of our UCA national Assembly, the Orientation for Under 30s was the making of my experience last week!!
It meant I had friendly faces in the crowd, energetic and clever folks to 'hang out' with and a reason to turn up each day!!
Evidence of this comes in the form of a website of cartoons which continued to be a source of fun as they were displayed on the big screen before and after some otherwise long sessions!!
It all started with 7.7.7 and you can check out the Team and the Cartoons here

"Titanic"
directed by James Cameron
Leonardo DiCaprio
Your social class is stuffy. Let's dance with the ship's rats and have fun.
Kate Winslet
You have captured my heart. Let's run around the ship and giggle.
(The ship SINKS.)
Leonardo DiCaprio
Never let go.
Kate Winslet
I promise. (lets go)
