iPad 2

In a rare moment of responsible purchasing I have been saving a few dollars here and there in a jar while impatiently waiting for the rumoured launch of the updated iPad 2 and this time it's been worth the wait with a hopeful date of March 25th and not delays until May [we wait to see the reality!!].
Having trialled the boss' original for uses, apps and limitations it has a few of all of these but would still be a useful tool beyond the 'iPhone on steroids' call and not quite Macbook niche!!
I'll use it for AV stuff, notes, meetings, calendar and on the spot web stuff I can't read so well on the phone... bring it on!!

Check it out here

"Mac-over" here we come...

For a while we've had plans at work to update my laptop. While some wierd audio-visual issues had been resolved there were still some hassles and the more I tested out creative stuff the more the limits have been obvious... my DEll is to become a second AV laptop and for use around the Unit in various more straight forward projects!!

Because we are well resourced for equipment and given permission to have the tools we need to do our tasks.... much appreciated John and Sally!! I am able to venture into the 'light' and start using a Mac!!

As I said on facebook... now for the shaved head, 30kg weightloss, Dr Martens, black framed glasses, Howies jumper etc etc... the 'Mac-over'!!

Now come the endless questions for colleagues, hackers, and officianados!!

Computer and Modem Fried!!

Wow! How slow is dial up...
Apparently a phone line spike, or something having the same effect, caused my computer and ADSL modem to fry and I have been restricted to my GPRS speed Vodafone wireless net connection [because its not 3G speed in Newcastle yet.... I have it for times in other parts of the state and airports around the country!!]

It would seem I'm back... new NEC PC, new Modem and new surge protected powerboard [$200 one instead of $90 one] with replacement warranties... so we'll see!!

I now hope to finalise my Greenbelt/UK/US trip posts and catch up on heaps of other tasks!!

Mobile Phones 21st Birthday!!

The Daily Telegraph had an article on Saturday celebrating the 21st birthday of the humble 'mobile'!! I recall the 10kg car phone and the Motorola "Brick" plus my own Nokia at 300 grams where they are now about 75 grams and even less!!
